Women represent less than a third of top-selling artists in music and only 14% of songwriters.

In 2022, just 187 women and non-binary people were credited as either producer or engineer on the top 50 streamed tracks in 14 genres, compared to 3,781 men.

Misogyny in Music UK Government report.

Whilst we see female-identifying artists in the charts, the producers, writers, engineers, and musicians behind them can be often men. These statistics highlight the significant gender disparity that still prevails in the music industry, revealing the urgent need for greater support and opportunities for female-identifying and non-binary individuals.

At We Are the Unheard we are committed to addressing this imbalance by fostering an inclusive environment that empowers and uplifts women and non-binary people.

We actively work to provide equal access to resources, mentorship, and professional development opportunities, ensuring that all our students can thrive and succeed in their musical careers. By championing diversity and equality, we aim to contribute to a more balanced and fair music industry where talent and creativity can flourish, regardless of gender.
